James "Jim" Schelkun, co-owner of Empire Radiator Service, Tubes N' Hoses, is a graduate of SUNY Alfred at Wellsville. He has an associate's degree in automotive repair. He is an ASE certified Master Automotive Technician. He is factory trained by Owens Research, Incorporated in fluid line manufacturing (Tubes N' Hoses). He is also factory trained by Active Radiator Supply in charge air cooler recoring and truck and industrial radiators. He received NARSA Heavy Duty Technician Certification in February 2004. Jim is the key when it comes to constructing custom radiators and other pieces. He can make it if you can describe it. Jim is a member of NARSA, National Automotive Radiator Service Association and a member of their northeast region board. He is a member of Alfred's Student Advisory Board.
After graduation he worked in Oldsmobile dealerships before becoming a MATCO Tool distributor. He was with MATCO until 1997 when he and his father purchased Empire Radiator Service.
Ginny Schelkun, wife of owner Mike Schelkun and mother of owner James Schelkun, is our very capable office manager. She is the one who usually answers the phone when you call. She graduated from business school in Detroit, Michigan. Recently she completed the Parts Plus Service Writer Program. Her experience includes several years on the board of directors of Greece YMCA. Ginny is the one who knows what is going on in the shop. Ginny has been running the office since 1997 when Jim and Mike purchased the business. She answers phone inquiries, schedules appointments, orders parts, and prepares estimates. She handles accounts receivable and accounts payable. In addition, she takes care of what ever is necessary for a smooth running office and shop. In her spare times she is an avid quilter and enjoys motorcycling with her husband, Mike.
Mike Schelkun is co-owner of Empire Radiator Service with his son James. He retired from Kodak in 1991 after nearly 30 years of service. He was involved in new product development, technical support to worldwide manufacturing, and quality. When he left he was leading an ISO certification program. After retiring, he worked as a tax preparer for a few years, including teaching a basic level tax preparation course. Mike is responsible for book keeping and marketing. He is also knowledgeable in custom radiator building. This includes antiques, classics, street rods, and truck and industrial applications. If you're looking for a special radiator, Mike is the one to call.
Mike is an active member of NARSA and attends trade shows and seminars to keep up on the latest in automotive, truck, and industrial heating and cooling. In his spare time Mike enjoys motorcycling. He is an active member the Christian Motorcyclists Association (CMA), Goldwing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) and Abate of Monroe County, NY. Wendy Schelkun, wife of owner James Schelkun, was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Baptist Bible College with a major in counseling. She works for an architect. She works in the office Fridays and fills in during vacations. She may be answering phones or helping in the shop. Jim has taught her to solder radiators and take apart and assemble truck and industrial radiators.
Anthony (Tony) Garland is our lead technician. He has extensive experience in auto repair. He has factory training in HD radiator and CAC recoring from Active Radiator Supply. He is factory trained in Tubes n' Hoses. Tony is proficient in recoring and repairing automotive, truck and industrial radiators and charge air coolers. He is also very capable when it comes to building custom radiators. He received his NARSA Heavy Duty Certification in May 2006.
Darwin Holberton is our on the road salesman. He has worked at Kodak and Taylor Instruments, where he was invlolved in quality facilitation and process improvement. He also has experience as an over the road truck driver. When Darwin came to us we put him to work in the shop repairing, recoring, and building radiators to learn the ropes.
